Baldur's Gate 3: 10 Best Rings (2024)

Of all the myriad of magic items in Baldur's Gate 3 that are strong enough to make whole builds around, rings are more versatile in that you can mix and match to create unique character builds or further enhance their class abilities.

Although it's a shame Baldur's Gate 3 didn't include more iconic rings from , the ones we do see tend to focus on enhancing the video game mechanics rather than staying within the boundaries of the tabletop game. This is for the best because if some of these rings made it to tabletop they could break it.

With the newest patch, we are getting new evil endings and the difficulty and boss changes found in Honour Mode are now available to less hardcore-seeking players. With literal new ways to play and more of the story to discover, making your ideal build is even more important, and rings are the cherry on the class building sundae.

10 Ring Of Regeneration

The Ring of Regeneration can be bought at Sorcerous Sundries and has the simple effect of healing you 1d4 every turn while in combat. Although you can't artificially throw yourself into combat, this ring can bring you from zero to pretty close to full over the course of most encounters in Act Three.

The ring can also trigger other items that buff healing, like the Hellrider's Pride gauntlets or Boots of Aid and Comfort, to give you unlimited Blade Ward and temporary hit points for free. Even against particularly strong enemies, if your character goes down while wearing the ring, they'll just get automatically revived at the start of their turn.

The Ring of Free Action can be bought or looted at Moonrise Towers and has the simple effect of removing the negative effects of difficult terrain while giving immunity to the restrained and paralyzed conditions. While simple on the surface, this ring is perfect for martial characters, who require the most freedom of movement.

Because difficult terrain isn't always easy to spot and can be found in most encounters, you will be saving your martial character from wasting an action on dashing or a bonus action for jumping. The paralyzed condition immunity is the important one as many enemies have spells and weapon coatings that force paralysis.

8 The Whispering Promise

Of all the healing buff items, The Whispering Promise is the most useful as it will lead to quicker fights, especially against spellcasters. The healer who wears the ring can also use it on themselves to gain the benefits of both healing and Bless without having to concentrate.

This can be exploited with mass healing spells like Mass Healing Word and Mass Cure Wounds which can grant the Bless effect to more characters than the spell normally allows without taking up or requiring you to maintain concentration. With the Ring of Salving in the other slot, you can buff your healing spells even further with an additional two points per cast.

7 Shifting Corpus Ring

While most rings are simply additional, one-use spells, the Shifting Corpus Ring is bang for your buck with two of the more useful spells attached to the same ring. Blur alone is a strong spell in that it is stronger than Mirror Image, Shield, and Mage Armor in terms of protecting your character from attacks.

Although sadly it isn't Greater Invisibility, the Invisibility spell is useful both in and out of combat, especially if you're trying to take your money back from the merchant you just bought from. While this ring doesn't have a game-breaking effect, it's the strongest in terms of value per slot.

6 Killer's Sweetheart

According to the description, the Killer's Sweetheart ring gives you a free critical hit on the next attack following a creature kill, but in practice, you are allowed to hold onto that critical strike during any attack until your next long rest.

You can use this to store potentially one-shot strength attacks for when you come upon a boss enemy or just next to use a smokepowder arrow to crit-kill a room full of mummies. Combined with the Luck of the Far Realms tadpole ability, you have access to two free critical hits on every long rest.

5 Crypt Lord Ring

Any magic item that gives you a free casting of a sixth-level spell is worth holding on to, but the Crypt Lord Ring has one of the best spells for this scenario. It gives you access to the sixth-level animate dead, which raises a particularly powerful mummy creature.

The best part of this kind of spell is that you don't need to be in combat to use it, and it stays effective as long as you have a corpse to animate. If you are running low or are in an area with few to no bodies, remember to stash them in your camp chest like some sort of hoarding necromancer.

4 Shadow Blade Ring

Shadow Blade is a spell you can only cast as long as you are wearing the Shadow Blade Ring and gives you access to a spectral, purple shortsword. While you can't sell the sword or even remove it from your inventory, you shouldn't want to as it deals an impressive 2d8 psychic, which makes it one of the strongest shortswords in the game in terms of damage.

This ring is perfect for monks or rogues, as monks get relatively few weapon proficiencies, and because the weapon is light, you can dual-wield it. For rogues, it has the finesse property, which means it works for sneak attacks.

3 Risky Ring

The Risky Ring is significantly less risky than the name implies just due to the simple fact of making weapon attacks versus making saves. For every Hold Person the odd caster uses on your character, you'll be making a hundred attack rolls, all with advantage.

While there is no martial character that wouldn't make good use of this ring, rogues will find it particularly useful as it means you can trigger sneak attacks without having to hide or needing an ally nearby. Just remember to take it off before you fight a group of mind flayers who will leave you stunned the entire fight.

2 Ring of Protection

If you don't know what kind of build to focus on and just need a second ring, the Ring of Protection has the best neutral bonuses that applies to any character or class. Thsi ring applies a +1 bonus to both armor class and all of your saving throws, making whoever wields it more likely to survive combat.

You also get the Ring of PRotection as early as the Druid Grove by helping Mol, and it is the kind of ring you are likely to have equipped until the end of act three. It's also the only ring that gives you a flat bonus to armour class without having to be obscured or shoving an enemy.

1 Smuggler's Ring

While most rings are useful for combat, the Smuggler's Ring is the perfect exploration tool, which means you can always hot swap it between initiative rolls to get a sweet bonus. This applies best to Rogue characters, as they can best make use of the sleight of hand and stealth bonuses.

This makes sleight of hand checks much more trivial as normally they have too much risk considering the possible rewards, but adding a significant bonus mitigates getting tossed in jail or hitting F5 far more often. Just be aware of the -1 bonus to Charisma, and don't forget to remove it before any important dialogue cutscenes.
