January 2024 – March 2024

1. File the 2024-2025FAFSAby the priority service date of March 1.
   • School Code: 001083
   • Note: The FAFSA can be submitted after March 1.

April 2024

1. Estimated financial aid summary letterswill be sent to all admitted students prior to Second Look with projected financial aid eligibility.
2. Scholarship offers are sent out to students who are selected by the UArizona Scholarship Committee.
   • Automatic review up to admission to College of Medicine – Tucson.

June 2024

1. Official award letter will be sent to all admitted students who have submitted a FAFSA.
2. Review your UAccess Student Center
   • View Award Notification
   • Accept your loans in the amount needed for the academic year
   • Grant/Decline permissions for financial aid authorization
   • Complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) & Loan Entrance Counseling for each accepted loan type

July 2024

In UAccess > Student Center

1. Complete any outstanding To-Do List items & review any Notices & Holds
2. Confirm fall enrollment for all required courses
3. Confirm tuition is being assessed for fall on your bursar’s account
4. Update mailing and permanent address if required
5. Sign up for web refund enrollment if direct deposit is preferred

August 2024

In UAccess > Student Center

1. Review the My Financial Aid Summary page to confirm your aid disbursed for fall
2. Confirm you have no outstanding charges on your bursar’s account
3. Pay any outstanding charges on your Bursar’s account

The estimated cost of living allocation varies per year in medical school and is based on the academic year duration. The cost of living includes room/board, transportation, miscellaneous, books and supplies, health insurance, and the cost of USMLE Step 1 for second-year medical students and Step 2 for third-year medical students.

Students who live with their parents should refer to the commuter budget. Students living independently should refer to the non-commuter budget.

• This is not a bill. This is only an estimate. All amounts shown here or in other university publications or webpages represent tuition and fees as currently approved. However, the University of Arizona reserves the right to increase or modify tuition and fees without prior notice, upon approval by ABOR or as otherwise consistent with Board policy, and to make such modifications applicable to students enrolled at the UA at that time as well as to incoming students. In addition, all tuition amounts and fees are subject to change at any time for correction of errors. Finally, please note, that fee amounts billed for any period may be adjusted at a future date.

• Additional tuition and fee information available at the Bursar’s Office.
• Disability insurance: All enrolled medical students are assessed $24 per academic year ($12 per semester) to cover the group plan policy. There is no opting out based on the rules of the plan. This charge is included as part of the miscellaneous budget category for your cost of attendance. Before applying for financial aid as a student at the College of Medicine – Tucson, we suggest that you review your credit score and prepare a draft budget.

Complete a Credit Check

There are three major credit bureaus that track consumer credit scores (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion). The federal government requires each credit bureau to give consumers a free credit report annually.

You can request your free reports atmonthly budgeting worksheet to create a draft budget.

Since your offered financial aid is an academic year amount, it is recommendedto calculate your annual expenses on the budget worksheet over a 12-month period.

• Enteryour values for income and then initially add the financial aid amount that is offered of for the following budgets below:
  • AZ Resident Non-Commuter (independent): $76,626
  • Non-Resident Non-Commuter (independent): $95,706
• Enter your fixed and variable expenses into the budget sheet. See below the expenses we provide for the following:
  • Tuition & Fees: $39,796 Resident; Non-Resident: $58,879
  • Books & Supplies $800 + Computer $1,300 = $2,100
• Review your Total Discretionary Income calculated at the bottom of the page.
  • If it is a positive amount:Reduce the amount you reported in the income section for Financial Aid by the Total Discretionary Income providing a new $0 value.When you accept your financial aid in July, you will only accept up to the amount reported in the Financial Aid section on the form. This implies that you do not need all of the aid that has been offered to you.
  • If it is a negative amount:Your financial aid does not cover the amount you will need and you should schedule an appointment with the Financial Aid Office to review further. Please bring this budget sheet to your appointment: AAMC Fillable Budget Worksheet

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan

This loan is federally guaranteed and it isnotbased on financial need.Interest accrues from the time the loan is disbursed to the school and is a fixed rate for the life of the loan.Loan origination fees are taken at the time of disbursem*nt. There are maximum amounts you can receive per school year determined by the number of months you are in school.

• Amount offered: $20,500 per academic year
  • Interest Rate: Fixed at 6.54%
  • Origination Fee: 1.057%
• The lifetime maximum a graduate student may receive throughout their graduate career is $138,500 (also includes all Federal Direct or FFELP Subsidized Loans you may have received)

GraduatePLUS Direct Loan

Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan is a loan made by the U.S. Department of Education to graduate or professional students. Interest accrues from the time the loan is disbursed to the school and is a fixed rate for the life of the loan.Loan origination fees are taken out at the time of disbursem*nt. Graduate PLUS Loans require the borrower to becredit-worthy.

• Amount offered: up to full cost of attendance
  • Interest Rate: Fixed at 6.54%
  • Origination Fee: 4.228%

Scholarship Universe is a scholarship-matching portal that determines eligibility for all available scholarships based on the student profile question responses.A UA NetID is required to log into SU.If you are not a UA student, you will not be able to create a profile until you are admitted, but you will be able to see a list of available scholarships and related information. P-MAP students are encouraged to apply for all available scholarships that are designated within the SU portal and research other scholarships available through public and private organizations.

Tal Frank from Physician Loans hosted theHome Financing for Graduating Medical Students and Residents webinar for the AAMC First Program on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

The College of Medicine – Tucson Financial Aid Office may be able to adjust your budget through a COA Appeal if you incur allowable expenses during the academic year that are not included in your standard COA or exceed the amounts accounted for in the standard budget.

Examples of expenses that may be considered include the following:

• Cost of child care/dependent care

• Purchase of a computer

• Rent or utility expenses that exceed the estimated COA

• Away rotation expenses

• Interview expenses

Forms and/or documentation requested by the Office of Financial Aid may be submitted via email, U.S mail or in-person. Follow the instructions below when submitting forms and/or documentation to ensure your submission is received by the Office of Financial Aid and processed in a timely manner.

Submitting Documents via Email

Forms and/or documents submitted to the Financial Aid Office via email must be submitted per the following.

Subject Line of email must include:

• Name of the Form and/or documentation attached and
• Student ID number
• Example: Student Budget Re-Evaluation, 23456789

All supporting documents must be submitted under the same folder as an attachment in one email (separate emails and screenshots in email body will not be accepted).

Acceptable attachment formats:

• Microsoft Word (accepted)
• Submit each form with sufficient documentation (example: receipts)
